Jan. 12-14, 2009 – Pleasant Work and Beautiful Weather and an Interesting Thought

Nothing much to write. Had a lovely Reiki I workshop the last two days with a young couple (20 and 21) from Australia. The weather continues to be unseasonably warm during the day but still cold in the evening from sunset, until about 11 in the morning. I use my heater mostly in the morning when doing my meditation etc., but have not needed it even in the evening since the room warms up beautifully from the sun during the day.

Had an interesting insight during my Reiki workshop today. Very simple thought: Just as we do the best we can to keep our physical bodies healthy – healthy food, exercise etc., we must also “feed” our energy body and soul “healthy food” and exercise. This would include meditation, pranayama, doing Reiki, yoga and of course feeding it healthy food in the form of positive thoughts and perceptions. Considering the way we respond to situations we are confronted with and what perceptual filter we use to understand our own reality. And of course doing our best to change toxic, negative emotions and feelings into positive ones.

Seems as if the weather is getting warmer each day. It is quite delightful!

Aside from working, (I have two Reiki sessions tomorrow), and strolling around, doing a little cooking, nothing much to write so I will end this here. This is what real life is about. It is not every day that we have AHA! Moments, or inspirational thoughts, or motorbike adventures. Mostly we just live in the moment and enjoy what we have. And that is as it should be. I meet lovely people from all over the world each day, have interesting conversations with them, learn new things as do they, and basically just flow with things as they are sent to me.

January 10, 2009 – Winter Hibernation and Cooking – and – My First Regular Reiki client in India!

January 10, 2009 – Winter Hibernation and Cooking – and – My First Regular Reiki client in India!

Just got my first regular Reiki client here in India! She is a local lady from Rishikesh with personal issues which she hopes will be helped by Tarot reading, regular Reiki treatments, home”work” etc. She may even decide to do a workshop. She will be coming every Tuesday 1t 11. I’m very thrilled with this.

Write about cooking procedure and post pictures… just resting…feeling sluggish…doing things very slowly….winter time really is a time for hibernation and I am following my body’s wisdom. Perhaps that is why people get sick in the winter more often? In the “real” world we have to follow the clock and cannot allow a change in habit as the seasons change. But if change is the norm in nature, why would it not be the norm for human beings as well? We are part of nature. I seem to sleep more, move more slowly, absorb the sun in the morning hours and then only around 12 or so begin to think about going out or “doing” something…But it seems to work well as my evening is longer and more productive…including taking a nice hot shower before going to sleep rather than in the morning when it is much colder.

I’ve ever really described the process of cooking in my “non-kitchen” so will do so very quickly and attach a couple of pictures. Since I have no real kitchen, no work counter, no sink, etc., and I squat on the floor Indian style to actually cook over the balloon of gas and also to wash my dishes in the bucket of water…my cooking of necessity remains very simple. Kitcheri, veg soup, pasta with cheese sauce and porridge…and the occasional egg. And all the preparations for cooking are done outside on the terrace at the little table I sit at to read, work on the computer, eat and chop vegetables etc. It is very pleasant doing this outdoors, sitting down, taking my time, and having everything chopped and measured, including spices. Liquids etc., before going into the room and actually doing the cooking. It is relaxing, peaceful, mindful, and of course I have the beautiful sunsets and sunrises to accompany the preparations. Attached are a couple of photos to give you a slight idea, but without feeling the warmth of the sun, or hearing the music playing in the background, etc., some of the effect is missing.

Jan. 8, 2009 – Sun Salutations – or – The Blessings of the Winter Sun

Jan. 8, 2009 – Sun Salutations – or – The Blessings of the Winter Sun
I am not doing yoga exercises on my roof…but I am nevertheless blessing, and being Blessed, by the Winter sun…shining down on my from its position over the mountain.
I am slowly sipping a cup of hot spiced milk, dressed in several layers of winter clothes and wrapped in a warm “blanket-shawl”. Every so often a chilly breeze passes over me to remind me that it is indeed Winter in Rishikesh. But the sun continues to fill me with its powerful and loving warmth, from my face, straight through to my bones, and the depth of my soul The sun, like the Soul of the Universe, is dialoguing with my own soul!
As I sit here, the oayers will slowly come off and I will eventually be sitting in my tank top…but for now…I am still a bundle of clothing wrapped around a human form which is being lovingly caressed by solar warmth. This has got to be the best winter I have ever experienced – perhaps my entire life.

Jan. 6-7, 2009 – Nothing Special But 2 Insights…Tarot Cards and my Eyesight

Nothing much to write…just a pleasant day, taking it easy, meeting friends, relaxing, enjoying the wonderful weather which continues to be sunny for parts of the day and hazy at other times, but no rain yet. I’m posting some pictures of more views of the Ganga.

I cannot get enough of sitting along the river and enjoying its changing its appearance not just from day to day, but from hour to hour as you can see here. These were taken within 2 hours of each other.

I have some other things to post but need the urge to sit down and write more seriously, and I am feeling very lazy these days, so will just wait with it. Just some new projects that have been sent my way and am enjoying them immensely.

It is difficult being this far away during the current crisis at home, but since there is Read the rest of this entry »

January 2-4, 2008 – Walk in the Village, the Law of Abundance at Work Again, and Just Another Few Days in Rishikesh

Nothing particularly exciting the last few days but some interesting observations and again the laws of abundance at work. Below is a picture from a walk I took in the local village…more pics in the post below…

Village Life

Village Life

The winter is here for sure, but it is not all that terrible. There are a few hours of each day when it is really warm and pleasant, and if I am dressed properly, even the morning and evenings are fine, both in my room and out on the roof. I don’t remember if I mentioned the story of the heater, but I was given one by the guesthouse which didn’t work. It seems they no longer are giving out heaters as some people had been leaving them on all night(!)…I imagine Americans who are used to over heated houses. So I spoke to the owner and he was happy for me to have one…I explained that I use it for about an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. That’s all. He told me to buy one and give the receipt to the manager and I would get the money back. Went down the same day to the shop I had bought my extension cord. This has become unusable the same day as the heater story, and needed to have a new plug put on it anyway. They fixed the plug for me with a new sturdier one than the original (at no charge) and I bought a small two spiral heater which is just fine for the room. Makes a big difference in my comfort levels, even if I use it for a very short time. I have decided not to ask for the money back, and keep it with the rest of my stuff which I plan to leave here stored someplace. That way, I will be sure to have a good working heater when I come back each year.

I had also been testing different combinations of clothing, and found that my two locally made shalwar kameeze winter suits, one with pashmina in it and the other hand-woven Kashmiri wool are actually much warmer than Read the rest of this entry »

January 1, 2009!!! Happy New Year!

January 2, 2009

January 1, 2009!!! Happy New Year!

Well, my last post was kind of depressing and I ask your forgiveness, but this blog is not meant to tell only the good stuff. It is supposed to be a journal of my experiences, and these include difficult days as well. Just the other day I wrote a post telling of the importance of all things in order to appreciate our life fully. So the last few days have been difficult, the emotions manifesting themselves as headaches, which I’ve had for the last few days almost continuously. I generally don’t experience headaches anymore in my life, so this surprised me. But I’ve been working through the emotions relating to the situation at home, with my country and my family, and the headache seems to be waning this evening. I cannot say I am in the greatest of moods but slowly I am returning to my balance.

Life is good, the seasons change, we move from periods of quiet to periods of war, from peace to struggle, from quiet to noise, from hot to cold, from joy to sadness, but always try our best to be in harmony with each day and to be grateful for what each day brings. Knowing that all is happening exactly as it should, when it should and how it should. Tears and sadness making way for joy and laughter which are so much more appreciated when they return.

Last night there was a New Year’s Eve party here, but I didn’t go. I never like parties anyway, don’t drink and it was also VERY cold…and with the way I was feeling, I crawled into bed to keep warm and watched some “TV” before going to sleep with earplugs which kept the party away from me completely. Slept well until the morning.

I was supposed to have my heater last night, but did not. So today I went out myself, purchased a new heater and gave the bill Read the rest of this entry »
